Happy Shipmast, ho ho ho

Blimey, Christmas is upon us and before I get showered up for the staff Christmas party (curry of course) tonight I am popping you the last missive before Christmas and almost certainly the last before the New Year. So have a great one wherever you are.

Now this Thursday. Don't be boring and instead come along to see 3 ace bands (believe me, I chose them!); Drinkme, Dega Breaks and Beverley. You can have a listen at www.myspace.com/drinkmeonline, www.myspace.com/thedegabreaks, www.myspace.com/beverley

It is a mere £4 on the door and a mere £3 with a print of this. DJ Jonny will be playing indie and electro stuff in between the bands and until 1am too. Plus free mince pies and a free ever so exclusive "the Good Ship" badge. You lucky people!

On Christmas Eve, Maurice will play a bit of yuletide fayre. You know the good stuff by Shane McGowan, the Waitresses, Nat King Cole. If I can persuade him he might put on a bit of Slade and Wizzard too, I think he thinks they're crap though. Bah. We will be open til 2am that night.

Now for New Year's Eve extravaganza I have 57 people pre confirmed with names. We are open til 4am and Maurice will be playing Motown, ska, soul, some punk and indie and some classic house. Nick C will take over and play lots of hands in the air house, 88 style plus Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, New Order etc. If everyone is good we may even stay open an extra hour. I know loads of you are coming but if you haven't confirmed it with me then please let me know asap as we would prefer to have a good excuse to turn away the do as you likeys. Not that they will be getting in anyway. No sireee.

Between Christmas and New Year we have a free gig night on Thursday 29th which will feature a couple of semi plugged in rock bands plus a Spanish singer who sounds like a cross between Edith Piaf and Billie Holliday. Remarkable stuff it is.

Other than that we will show a few football games on our big screen, during the day in the holiday period so if you wanna know who is being shown email me to ask.

All the best.

wot, no pop quiz??

Sorry folks but the pop quiz this month has to be cancelled. Mainly as it was the only date available for a staff Christmas party. However there is a general knowledge quiz tomorrow and lots of other stuff in bite sized chunks as per. Cheers firstly to all who came to the Milk and Scissors Thursday nighter and Sunday all dayer. 16 bands in total and lots of fun. Ok...

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE QUIZ
Tuesday it is. And your compere is me. So it should be at least amusing to see me making a cock of myself. The rounds will be London, Pot Luck, True or false, history, stage+screen music and sport plus a couple of others. It will be a mix of the trivial and the high brow with the emphasis on trivial. University Challenge it will not be. Money and alcohol prizes for 1st and 2nd prize for best team name. "Jacx in 5" won last time, a girl called Jacx in a team of 5. Good eh?? "Three must get beers", a group of teenagers were the quiz kings last time. Come on old timers, don't let these pesky kids have it all their own way!

The Smyths on Thursday 15th December
Many superlatives have been written about these lads and the fact is that they have never done a bad gig. They've never even done an average one. They play for near 2 hours, they're as camp as Christmas and blimey it is Christmas nearly. So let yourself lose yourself and pop along, they'll be on from between 9 and 930. I have had about 30 people put their name on the door for this. I do not think we will sell out but it may be an idea to get me your name on the door for this one just in case. £5 in. Band finish about 11 and bar open til 1am.

Squeezed on Sunday 18th December
A right special offer this one is. Only available to this mailing list but anyone who comes along to The Smyths and then comes along to Squeezed too can have entry for £2. Bargain eh?? They will play two sets; the first starting at 8 and the second at 930 until about 1030 and we stay open until 1230am.

New Bands on Tuesday 22nd December
We have a cracking line up in this Thursday before Christmas. The Dega Breaks have just been signed and this will be their last gig for a while, I saw DrinkMe at The Borderline about 18 months ago and they were blinding and Beverley are a nice blend of punky and thrashy. £4 then DJ until 1am. Give them all a listen at their websites and I am sure you will agree that the quality is ace.

Christmas/New Year
What was a trickle is now somewhere between a drip and a big drip. Combined tickets for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve at £5 in advance. Please get back to us as soon as possible, I'll update next week with how many are left.

cheers all and have a good week.

gigs, badges, New Years, art...somebody stop me.

Right, first of all the news you have all been waiting for. Yes, we will show the World Cup draw on the big screen from 715 this Friday. It only takes them 90 minutes to draw out 32 teams.

Ok, that is something rubbish that we are doing but we will be doing lots of great stuff in the next week or so including a business opportunity for any creatives out there who make stuff.
Bite sized chunks as per.

MILK AND SCISSORS
This Thursday 8th we have 5 bands and on Sunday11th an all dayer with 11. The quality is amazing and if you go to the promoter's site at www.myspace.com/milkandscissors you will find the full line up. There will be loads of press interest and the likes coming down. And just for you Sam; lots of good looking boys On the Thursday pints of Labatts are only £2 and the promoters Miss Shambles and Miss Plum are truly lovely and will make you feel very welcome. If you are very nice to them then they may also proffer you a free Good Ship badge. Only if you are very nice though.

DJs
As you probably all know by now we play house/funk on Friday and all sorts/anything goes on a Saturday. List is always on the website.

THE SMYTHS and SQUEEZED
Next Thursday 15th we have the always welcome return of The Smyths. These lads have appeared in the Guardian Guide this year, toured in Europe and been feted by all and sundry. You get near 2 hours worth as well, ace value for a fiver I would say. This is their last gig before Christmas, interest is going to be high so I recommend letting me have your name for the door on this one. Squeezed are a tribute to Squeeze controversially enough. They will also be playing near 2 hours of stuff and I am sure that will be an ace night. If you like Squeeze! Me, I love them and can't for a bit of "Indians send signals from the rocks above the pass" £4 in with a print out/flyer.

NEW YEAR'S EVE
We are going til 4am and Maurice will be DJing funk, Northern Soul, Motown, Reggae, 2 Tone plus The Clash etc. After Nick C will play a mammoth selection of old school house, with a bit of Stone Roses, New Order and other feel good tunes thrown in. We want to account for all tickets in advance at just a fiver (includes free entry on Christmas Eve) so let us have your names if you are up for that.

LATE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS IDEAS
On the aftrenoon of 17th and 18th the talented Miss Lorenzini aka her indoors aka Puppets aka Miss Bagsby aka the Justified Ancients of MuMu will be selling her bags which you can see an idea of at http://www.zen55182.zen.co.uk/woollypigs.com/bagsby/catalogue-gallery.html
We would like to host another couple of people who make things of an artistic nature and we will give them free space to sell their wares. All they sell goes into their pockets. So if you or anyone you know makes anything; tshirts, earrings, I dunno, whatever get in touch.

Tata for now
