Kilburn ain't seen nuffink like this.

Hello one and all,

I tell you what Pommy Jeff who runs our once a month Thursday Anti Heroes club has put together a right good night this coming Thursday. I've spent this evening listening to the bands and they're proper good. 4 bands for a few quid of yer hard earned; it's gotta be a good deal. The rest of this email deals with the rest of the weekend and some future stuff for June July all in bite sized chucks as per to not give you indigestion.

Thursday 1st June. Club Anti Heroes Night
It's superb and been lovingly put together.
Featuring a super friendly vibe, ace tunes of DJs Men in Masks and FOUR great live bands. Just £4 with a print out of this or an email back to me requesting your name on the door.

Friday 2nd June. House music DJs til 4am
Top atmosphere, don't take any drugs kids!

Saturday 3rd June
More bands and then DJ Maurice until 4am
Anyone who was at last Saturday's event with The Importers, Absolutes and Dega Breaks will tell you what a brilliant night it was. I apologise to anyone I was a bit snappy with at the bar but I was tryna serve 10 people at a time on occasion. Say you forgive me. Anyhoo, similar formula this weekend. 3 bands and then Maurice playing a bit of indie and lots of dancefloor classics and old soul, ska and funk.

This Saturday's bands are
Tokyo Undergroud; "'young blues/punk trio from London; think Arctic Monkeys meets White Stripes'"
Fashoda Crisis; "'...have been described as a cross between Fugazi and Queens of
the Stone Age, they combine wit, intelligence, skronky guitar riffs and
extremely loud noise to create a unique sound that will peel back your skull
and nest in the warm sticky goo of your subconscious'
One Good Sun; "The Police meets the Kaiser Chiefs -so they say"

Sunday 4th June
Yet more music; soul, jazz, blues, rock.
The irrepressible Dave Clarke and co play their blues, soul, funk each and every Sunday until 12ish and this week they are supported by the lovely soul voice of Louise from Juniper Kick who will get you in the mood from 630pm onwards. Seriously come along and listen to this young lady; her voice is amazing.

World Cup build up and stuff
My apologies to those of you who don't like football. It will always come second to music at The Good Ship but the world cup is something else and we're not just gonna show every game, we will also be probably the only pub in London showing the warm up games this Sunday between Australia and Holland at 2pm and NZ v Brazil at 5. We're going for an international flavour and a celebration of nations. Jeez, I despair of myself at times. Anyhoo for those of you who don't like it...

July and onwards
The comedy will be back; at least two doses of free to get in comedy in July. The standard will be tip top too. Plus the best pop quiz this side of Mongolia shall return. Also we have already had lots of interest in The Smyths and Lucky Soul gigs on August 5th and the 19th respectively. We will do advance ticket sales for those and our regulars will be rewarded with cheapness as ever.

Have happiness and joy.

free film afternoon, discovating, music, fun and frivolity inside. OPEN ME UP.

Hello ladies and genitalmens,

Just a couple of future snippets before I launch into this weekend...
We have the amazing The Smyths playing a Queen is Dead special night on Saturday 5th August. It will be the album from start to finish and then a second set of Smith's favourites.
Also on Saturday August 19th we have the immense Lucky Soul headlining. These lot won the Guardian single of the week (yes the Guardian, they beat everyone with massive recording budgets etc) with their first single and their tunes are impossibly lovely. Check them at www.myspace.com/luckysoulluckysoul
Both events are likely to sell out so email me re tickets eh??

The weekend starts tonight and we have a smorgasbord or whatever that word is of good stuff for you. Oh aye...

TONIGHT
Songbirds+Troubadours last night. Plus barman Jim's last night
The truth is that I have no idea of the line up cos Stuart never tells me but it is his last Songbirds and Troubadours tonight before he hands the reins to Brett so it will be a great one. There will be about 6 acts, it will be all mellow and acoustic but not James Blunt like, oh no. We have some twisted hillbilly, country, folky stuff going on, it is always interesting. It is an ace night so come on down the price is right. Literally, £2. Also our ace barman Jim is leaving to become teenage girl dream fodder in Hollyoaks. See him for the last time before he becomes all famous and unbearable...

FRIDAY
House night, gonna be an old school back to '88 one. Can you feel it????

SATURDAY
Oh aye, you must get your arses to Kilburn this Saturday as we have the mighty Dega Breaks headlining, supported by the burgeoning talent of Absolutes and the electronic bleepery of The Importers. The music kicks off at about 8pm until roughly 11pm and then we have Maurice DJing indie, ska, soul, Motown and Northern until 4am by which time you can all take a well earned rest. All that for a fiver or £4 with a print out of this. Superb.

Have a listen to the bands too eh??

SUNDAY
This Sunday from 3pm we have something very special lined up. Basically it is an afternoon of free entertainment including some singers and the showing of some short films by talented young English film makers. It's art on your doorstep and all for free. If I were you I'd pop along.

WORLD CUP
Have you noticed how many places are advertising the England games only?? Unbelievable. Of course I'll be supporting Engerland but we're in London; the most cosmopolitan city in the world and to reflect that we will be showing every single game in the World Cup. Yes, the lot. From Togo to Ivory Coast. Plus we will be doing the Panini sticker swap before all the England games so you know where to come.

Arsenal and the weekend

Dear all, for those of you looking for somewhere to watch tonight's match we have just had the back wall painted meaning the already excellent picture is better still on a screen about 10 foot by 12. And the game is in English on ITV, not via our Greek satellite our non Greek customers will probably be pleased to know...

We have a load of bands playing on Thursday, house night on Friday and Sunday is Dave Clarke's resident band.

Let me just expand on Saturday night where we will ride you through a maelstrom of music styles (eh??) and it will be a belter...
We open with the electro pop of Moeker, continue in the same vein with a smattering of Trip Hop from Black Cherry, then it is the jazz and soul sounds of Juniper Kick and we finish up with local lad Alan Medley plus band. Oh, then DJ from 1130 til 4. Sounds good to me.

Good Ship weekend, scroll down re the World Cup

Hi all, Bite sized chunks as usual...

Thursday 11th
If you like your music on the rockier side then tonight is your night...
Stoner rock merchants Electric Decadence opening. Local lads Cause + Affect who are very QOTSA/Foo Fighters influenced follow and the headliners are Our Own Devices who make a quite unusual hardcore/ low fi punk noise.

www.myspace.com/randomman05
www.myspace.com/ourowndevices
£5 or £4 with print out of this.

Friday 12th
A few people have grumbled that the house night is a bit trancey, well we have listened and you will find it funkier, more vocal and more old school. DJs from 10 til 4am. Free entry before 1030

Saturday 13th
Saturday's show features 4 ace bands from 8pm and then DJ until 4am playing a mix of indie, soul, ska and club classics. We have the much vaunted Dirty Electric at the top of the bill with their dirty (!) electric (!) riffs and adoring mad for it fans, also like The Slits but better in my book The Mentalists who recently sang with Poly Styrene at Rock against Racism (well they would have done if Poly turned up!) and the electrifying riffs and pounding beats of Fear For Fever. The new kid on the block making massive waves Kate Nash opens; she's like Lily Allen's angstier sister. Kate starts about 8, Dirty Electric finish about 1130 and then DJ til 4am.

www.myspace.com/fearforfever

£5 in, £4 with flyer.

Sunday 14th
and every Sunday Dave Clarke's band, featuring loads of ace musicians playing blues, soul, funk and rock. It goes from about 630ish to midnight and is a bargainous £3 in.

WORLD CUP
Obviously most of you will be collecting Panini stickers for your nephew's, ahem. So we will be having a sticker swap before all the England games. Now as most of you know we have a massive screen at the GS with seating for nigh on 100 and standing room for more than double that but I need your ideas for what else we should be doing for the World Cup. Want to make it a celebration without being too jingoistic so if you have any ideas fire them over.

cheers

Vote McCooke and other May shenanigans

Dear all, Blair and Bush must be stopped so I am standing in the Kilburn ward for the Green party. That'll learn 'em. If you live in Kilburn then please put an x against my and the other Green guy's name. Cheers. Voting is tomorrow; Thursday May 4th only. Not many people bother with these local elections so your vote could make a difference blah blah blah.

Right, the full schedule for May is up on the websites. Every single Thursday and Saturday this month we have live bands and every Sunday we have Dave Clarke's ace resident band. Every Friday is house night. No quizzes or comedy this month but they will return.

This Thursday you MUST come and see And What Will Be Left Of Them. AWWBLOT are one of the best bands to ever play the GS. Catchy and insistent... sprays sweet pop-juice over everyone according to Drowned in Sound and I agree plus they put on a great live show.
Hear them at www.myspace.com/awwblot. They are the middle segment, we open with indie/electro act The Great Blind Degree and we finish with a bit of UK Hiphop from Marvin the Martian.

On Saturday we have something entirely new. Spectranova present a night of soul, funk, jazz, beats PLUS live bands playing Brazilian type stuff. It will be a lively, carnival type atmosphere. I will not be there til 2am as I will be at my nephew's christening jolly so be there befor 930 if you wanna get in for a fiver.

That's all, have a great May.
