POP quiz tomorrow, live bands night for next to nowt, Christmas and 2006 party

Dear all, I am doing 3 bite sized chunks in this email to aid your word digestion...

QUIZ

Hooray, the pop quiz is back tomorrow night; Tuesday 29th and last month's winners, the shockingly named Hairy Cornflakes can not come so there must be new quiz kings. Max 5 to a team, registration and faffing around from 8 to 830 and the quiz will start then and finish at 1030. There will be prizes for 2nd place and best team name too so please pop along from 8pm.

LIVE MUSIC

On Thursday we have 3 bands playing and then DJ Jonny spinning some fine tunes. Normal price is a fiver but if you let me know in advance then I will put your name on the door for four quid for up to 4 people. So if you come with 3 others you will get in for a quid each. A quid!!!!
The bands are Bugfly, Les Natrels and D-meister. If you can find anything on Dmeister you are a better Googler than I but I have their demos and they are a female fronted band mixing guitar and beats. Which leads nicely to Les Natrels who sound quite like Talking Heads I reckon and finishing off with Bugfly who are quite influenced by Blondie which I am sure you will agree is super. Have a butchers and a listen at www.lesnatrels.co.nr, www.cavern-liverpool.co.uk/cavernclub/profiles/bugfly_profile.htm and www.myspace.com/bugfly

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR

For Christmas Eve and New Years we will have Maurice DJing Northern Soul, ska, classic house, indie, punk and new wave. I might even have a go myself. We are not sure what time we will open til on Christmas Eve yet (probably 2) but we will stay opem til 4 on New Years Eve and charge the very cheap price if bought in advance of £5 for entry to BOTH. It will be £7 on the night if we have any tickets available for New Years Eve so please let me know asap if you would like to come.

cheers

Songbirds and Troubadours + return of the pop quiz

Dear all,

This Thursday, today for most of you who are reading this we are again pushing the boundaries as we present Songbirds and Troubadours, a night of singers with a twisty, folky edge. Featuring Ida Jocobsson-Bright new singer songwriter from Sweden,
Drama Trade-mellow dark acoustic featuring Amy and Matt plus others and DJ Stuart playing modern folk, Americana and roots music during and afterwards.

It will be in the front window and a quite different way to spend your Thursday night. Come and have a look eh??? £2 all goes to the poor artists. We'd charge more but then they'd get rich and wouldn't be as good. See???

Next Tuesday 29th sees the return of Simon and Luke to host Don't know much about history... our Good Ship pop quiz. Alcohol and money goes to the winners and we will again do a prize for 2nd and best name too.

In December we have 7 nights of bands, 10 nights of DJs and 2 nights of quizzes which will be mental. Now you wanna get in practice for the sessions ahead by sinking a few in November I reckon so see you ahoy!

cheers
John

Head scratching time

No you haven't all got nits. Instead our glamorous hostess Carolyn is hosting a General Knowledge quiz at T'Good Ship this Wednesday 16th November. History, stage and screen, sport, true and false are just some of the rounds. Team registering from 8pm for a sharp start at 9 to finsih before 11. Ace prizes in the alcohol department for the winners, second and best team name. Don't sit at home watching tele or (worse) doing that sudoku nonsense. Get your brain properly working and then balance it all by getting completely pissed!

Don't know much about history...Pop Quiz part 2 with Simon and Luke on Tuesday 29th.

Cheers
John.

Someone playing hip hop on a harp plus more quizzes and much more

Dear all,
Lots of news and events so I have put them under bite size headings for your convenience

SOMETHING VERY DIFFERENT
This Thursday 10th November we have something entirely different. Andrew Doc, a local Scottish chap with fantastic locks and a helluva voice will be performing and presenting Just Enough for the City. A hugely eclectic mix of soul, urban folk music, flowerty and all round hairs on the back of the neck stuff it says here. Starring the exceptional voice of Jeymes Samuel (he is Seal's brother, don't you know?), Andy Docherty himself, Lucinda Barrie (hiphop on a harp, remarkable), Dzifa Benson (a flowetry poet), Lisa Belle (a Swedish singer) and Livewire (dunno what they're doing to be honest). All in all, it's gonna be good and something new so £2 of your hard earned doesn't sound unreasonable eh?? Starting from 7 and until 1am.

Quizzes
Don't know much about history,,, was a great night and our 2nd instalment of that pop quiz is on the Tuesday 29th November. We will have prizes of alcohol and music goodies. By popular demand we are also introducing a general knowledge quiz (we do not have a snappy name for that yet, any suggestions??) that will be hosted by Carolyn and include rounds such as true/false, stage and screen, history, food and drink, sport, famous people. That will take place next Wednesday the 16th November. For both quizzes team registration is at 8 for an 830 start and a 1030 finish roughly. Bar til 1am.

Other band night for November
Alas we have no bands on the 17th November but we have a night on the 24th called Songbirds and Troubadours. That will be another ridiculously cheap one at £2 and will be a veritable smorgasbord of bands, plugged and unplugged plus other interesting stuff. I'll send you more once I have it.

The future
For December we have bands booked in every Thursday and a couple of Sundays too. We have somehow managed to land the best promoter in the UK (and probably Europe, apparently there is a better one in South Carolina but I haven't seen the proof) to do a couple of nights called Milk and Scissors. You can read all about it at http://www.myspace.com/milkandscissors and I would say hi to her if I was you; she's very friendly is our Marie.
More info will be on the websites soon but in the meantime a full list of the bands playing in December for your diaries as follows...
Thursday 1st December Dmeister and Les Natrels and Bugfly
Thursday 8th December Milk and Scissors, Collapse, Tigermoth, October All Over plus 2 others
Sunday 11th December Milk and Scissors, an all dayer. Lupen Crook, Theoretical Girl, The Bridge Gang, Starfighter-X, Things in Herds, Peter Wyeth, Hard Sparrow, Lokio, Emmy T
Thursday 15th December The Smyths (Smiths tribute of course)
Sunday 18th December Squeezed (Squeeze tribute)
Thursday 22nd December Drinkme, Dega Breaks and 1 other TBC
Thursday 29th December Songbirds and Troubadours.

We have DJs every Friday and Saturday, please look at the website for those. If anyone has any suggestions please email me. If you wanna be removed from this occasional message please tell me also.
