Tomorrow is the amazing Pop Quiz. Also Arctic Monkeys news and a bit more.

Hello boys and girls, well I hope Monday finds you in fine fettle. We have had a rocky old week at the ship but the waters are very calm now. Seriously, there's romance, tears, scandal and comedy aplenty in there. Like a microcosm of life but with a better soundtrack.

Still with me? Good. Ok, the kids have been raving about this new beat combo called The Arctic Monkeys and their new album is out today. Not one to miss a trick it will go in the jukebox tonight and also Leonard Cohen if I can find the rascal in my pile of paperwork.

THE QUIZ....... Tomorrow from 8. It is the one that gets you thinking and humming all at the same time. Simon and Luke present 50 to 60 rounds based on what's the intro, picture round, bands in films and more. Great prizes for 1st, 2nd and even for what we adjudge to be the best team name. Come along on Tuesday night and have a laugh. Also we have had a different winner every single time we have done the quiz so ye all have a chance.

THE WEEKEND.... Thursday is Songbirds and Troubadors night where Stuart puts on a load of acoustic acts in the window. It is very lovely, the area is awash with candles and the range of acts will bring a smile to your chops. £2 entry all goes to the musicians. Friday night is always house music night, with a happy and jumping atmosphere. Saturday is completely versatile and this weekend Maurice plays his usual mix of Motown, Northern, Philly, ska, with a smattering of indie and punk.

That's all folks. Have a good week.

cheers

Stuart's indie club on Saturday and local guest list on Sunday...

Folks,
I know a few of you have asked me when Stuart is DJing again...well he is at The Good Ship this Saturday and it is free entry before 1030. He will be playing The Rakes, Maximo Park, Babyshambles, Futureheads and Strokes, some old school stuff like Pixies, PJ Harvey, Jam, Clash, Smiths, Blondie, some older school stuff like The Sonics, Kinks, Beach Boys plus some classic Motown and funk. It sounds good to me.

On Sunday we have another LOCAL GUEST LIST giveaway. For £2 (usual price £5...)you can see the following bands...
AlbaNova
Lupen Crook
And what will be left of them...
Simon Breed.

Again let me know if you would like to come asap. The local guest list is designed for those in Kilburn or thereabouts to come and see great new bands on the cheap. Please support it.

Ho ho ho. Edinburgh nominees in Kilburn for free on Monday, plus brillo bands

Hello campers, Monday is sheeeeeet as we all know but not tonight as The Good Ship launches (launches!) it's comedy night. And it is completely free.

Featuring...

ALEX LASEREV "A very sick and very funny man"

JASON ROUSE " Not for the sensitive for the sensible, described as the Eminem of Stand-up"

Winner of the Golden Sasskvetch at Alt. Edinburgh.
REG. D. HUNTER, " I laughed so much I got cramp in my face" twice nominated for the Perrier Award at Edinburgh.

Also this week our double helping of live bands on Thursday and Sunday both boast amazing line ups of some of the best new talent around at the moment. Especially look out for Levelload on Thursday, very hotly tipped. For a twopiece the noise they make is amazing, put The White Stripes to shame.

You can see a full review of both gigs at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=24660702

If you wanna join our "local guest list" and get discounted entry to gigs give me a shout.

Quiz, Velvet Underground and announcing a brand new FREE stand up comedy night

Dear comrades, a few things are on this week of special note. Essentially the general knowledge quiz, the Velvet Underground tribute which should be ace on Thursday, plus live music on Saturday and Sunday and our FREE stand up comedy night next Monday. Plus exciting news about the jukebox at the end. No peeking before you have read the lot. Ok kids??

QUIZ
Our delectable quiz mistress Carolyn puts you through your mental paces again with a quiz based on London, showbiz, music, true or false, what year did so and so happen etc etc. There are bundles of questions from the high brow to the embarassing if you know the answer types so don't stay in and watch Eastenders, answer questions on it instead! Plus fine art and Victorian poetry, we're not common or nuffink you know!

THE UNDERGROUND VELVETS
Supported by The Silver Springs from Kilburn who are on at 815ish are the irrepressible Underground Velvets playing all the songs you forgot you knew from The Velvet Underground. They will play for 2 hours with a probable break in between. A bargain £4 with a print out of this or a mention of it on the door.

SOUL WEEKENDER
No not Caister but The Good Ship in Kilburn; dunno if you know it. Flexing our musical verstaility muscles (??) with live music this Saturday and Sunday. This unique, one off event on Saturday will feature the sultry soul vocals of Corrina Greyson with her outstanding band, world class funky drumming from the Richard Bailey Quartet, Universal's new young star Andy Cortes and the sonic adventures of dj Eric Soul. First performance 9pm. £7.00 entry.
On the Sunday Andy Docherty presents his second "Just enough for the city" night. For a ridiculously cheap £2 you can sample the delights of Andy himself, the lovely voice of Sweidsh songstress Lisa Hoeglund and other acts to be confirmed on this night of a hugely eclectic mix of soul, urban folk music, flowerty and all round hairs on the back of the neck stuff. 2 nicker entry, can't say fairer than that.

COMEDY NIGHT
Actually you can say fairer than that as on Moday 16th we launch our monthly comedy night which is ABSOLUTELY FREE to get in. There will be loads of comics awaiting your ears from the quite famous Alex Laserev, Jason Rouse and Reg D. Hunter (look them up, the last one has been a Perrier nominee 2 times in a row...) to a couple of debutants and maybe even people from the audience having a go. Blimey, get there at 8 for a seat.

JUKE BOX
We have a new one. It is exactly the same as the old one except it works, hooray. We are also going to change at least a few CDs every week to keep things fresh. 2 people requested The Editors so they are going on. If anyone else wants something in particular (don't bother with the Michael Bolton gag, heard that one numerous times...) then let me know. The air conditioning/heating is also being fixed on Monday (today, aaargh bed time) so hope to see you soon.

cheers

hooray, its 2006

Friends, Londoners and Countrymen,
Happy new year to you all

New Years Eve was a bit of a mental one at The Good Ship and there were a good 20 or so still hanging round as I left a good 4 hours after our official closing time of 4am. The rapscallions!

Right, for January we have the return of the general knowledge and pop quizzes, a new free to get it comedy night, loads of bands and DJs every Friday and Saturday. We also are looking to extend our hours to 2am during the week and 4am at the weekends. I just have to put some cash in a brown envelope and do a bit of nudge nudge wink wink and we'll be there.

Just one event to tell you about this week. AND BELIEVE ME IT WILL BE ACE BECAUSE MY FAVOURITE NEW BAND ARE PLAYING. Sorry to shout but I have heard 100s of bands since I stumbled across myspace in late summer 2005 and none have had the immediacy or the long lasting appeal of Awful Sparks. Listen to their tunes and I dare you to not have a smile on your face. They are a breath of the freshest of air and I'm delighted to say that they are headlining The Good Ship this Thursday. They cite Steve Malkmus, Talking Heads and Minutemen which is all very nice but to me they bring to mind The Rakes and Madness which works miles better than it sounds.

Also playing are sewage punksters The Rank Deluxe who play a riotous live set and our 3rd set of London punkateers Soundbite who promise to stick pins up your posterior. Ooh.

It is £4 to get in with a print out of this but if you are local and want to hear about the local guest list (cheaper obviously) get in touch and I'll tell all.

All the best.
