The Needs, pop quiz, Christmas + New Year

"To the untrained ear The Needs may appear to be just another product of London's post Libertines scene, but the reality is much more interesting. Zachary Stephenson and co make music with a shambolic charm, delivered with the drive and passion of Dexy's Midnight Runners, and equally influenced by Fifties doo-wop, Sixties girl-pop and old cabaret showtunes. Following a dalliance with Alan McGee's Poptones label (a connection which fostered more Libertines comparisons), The Needs are currently unsigned and any record label could do a lot worse than take a look. You have to love any band who blow their budget for new instruments on buying dodgem cars."

So said Simon Price, the pop writer for The Independent and The Good Ship is delighted to host them this Thursday evening the 20th October. I'm sure it will be a wild night and also playing are Havana Guns who to me sound very like a modern version of Blondie with a bit of Pretenders thrown in. Check out their websites at www.funfairs-and-heartbreak.com (Needs) and www.havanaguns.com. Dj until 1am as well, a drinks promotion and £4 to get in. All very pocket friendly.

Of course next Tuesday 25th is the pop quiz; "Don't know much about history". Geddit?? There will be free entry and lots of prizes plus another drinks promotion there too.

Please put Squeezed into your diary on the Sunday before Christmas (the 18th December) and sorry to bore you with that subject already but if anyone has any suggestions for what we should do for the Christmas and New Year I would love to hear them.

all aboard...
