There's more to Ireland dan dis

Dear all, just thought I would tell you first that tonight there is absolutely nothing going on at The Good Ship except Niall and Michelle behind the bar. Get in on the jukebox before they inflict their tastes upon ye. Only £1 for 5. I was in The Good Mixer (no relation) last week and it was 5 for TWO pounds. Can you believe it?? No, me neither.
Anyway, cheers to everyone who has come to the Good Ship this month, I reckon this January has been the best month since we opened, great it has been. The rest of this week is chockablock with stuff so here you go. There are discounts at the end of each night in bold. Nearly all of our events start about 8pm and charging stops about 1130 during the week so if you are popping in after for a late drink you should be fine.

The Laurel Collective www.myspace.com/thelaurelcollective Like The Talking Heads bring in Paul Simon's rhythm section and everyone's a winner. Impossibly gleeful on stage, they love life.
Lucena House www.myspace.com/lucenahouse They're funky in a Captain Beefheart way.
Kyoshi www.myspace.com/kyoshimusic They sound Japanese but they are actually from Leicester. An equal helping of rock and funk and soul, vocalist Leanne rules the stage.
The Hush www.myspace.com/thehush1 Guitar based funk rock indie dance music. Alternative music that you can actually dance to. Funky hooks and grooves.
After and until 4am DJs Sparo, Mr Snoid and El Barone select the unexpected - psych-rock, tropical funk, reggae and rock & roll. Come down to get down!

Female-fronted guitar pop group with a sinister twist...Think New Order, JAMC, Primal Scream, MBV, Beatles, Velvets. Also featuring Mat from Death in Vegas.
The Cut Outs www.myspace.com/thecutoutsband
All female trio, like the Pixies when Kim Deal is singing. Sprightly and buzzing onstage, going places.
Pocket Promise www.myspace.com/pocketpromise
"They sing and play with a passionate urgency that remains melancholy yet powerful ....... At times they manage to gently build up an atmospheric wall of noise akin to someone like Doves, and it’s moments like this where they show real promise"
The Gorgeous Colours www.myspace.com/thegorgeouscolours
The Gorgeous Colours blend the best bits of Neil Young, Spinto Band and The Violent Femmes into a thoroughly adorable whole that's still recognisably their own.
Tilt City Ghosts www.myspace.com/tiltcityghosts
Raw and lyrical. Melodic and political. Think Jeff Buckley turning Television on, Radiohead without the view from Uranus.
After DJs Judy and Maurice play a smorgasbord of sounds from the latest in indie, electro and beats through Motown and soul classics, disco, ska, funk and rocknroll. Til 4am!
£5 entry. £4 with print out at the door.
Sunday 28th January
The Chess Club presenst a rather splendid offering with some singer/songwriters and some bands all unplugged for your delight. £3. Bargain!!!
Fantastic indie punk gentlemen
Acoustic experimental folk Naomi's husky voice sounds like a female Tom Waits telling realist tales.
This acoustic folk two-piece form a magic alchemy, an emotive and seductive sound.
Darren Plant's acoustic music whispers dark yet alluring poetic stories.
Quirky alternative acoustic folk simplistic yet sophisticated, reminiscent of the "romance and ambiance of a fourteenth century garden party without sacrificing a certain jaded, post-modern realism."
£3. So cheap, discounts would be ridiculous.
cheers
